The Flatiron District is a neighborhood right in the center of Manhattan. It’s an area of the city that is very hard to place in a box. Geographically it bridges Midtown and Downtown and that fact is very visible in the mixture of businesses, retail shops and locals that inhabit the area. It is partly a design and business district, home to the Flatiron building that gives the area it’s name as well as the headquarters of many companies from design agencies to banks. It’s also become a foodie magnet with Eleven Madison Park anchoring the area. It’s also an amazing place to enjoy with your kids. Whether you’re a local or just visiting there’s tons of great shops, parks, restaurants and museums to explore. Enjoy this little guide with just a few of my favorites!

Maison Kayser

$$ Popular French bakery chain
921 Broadway, New York, NY 10010 (near 21st)
(212) 979-1600
Website

There are many great places in the neighborhood to grab a coffee or a juice to get the day started. Maison Kayser is a personal favorite. They are open early (7AM) and serve up delicious pastries and tasty egg dishes. The cafe is usually pretty busy but you can always grab something at the bakery counter and go. Also when the weather permits they have outdoor seating which is great and you can take in the hustle and bustle of the area with a great view of the Empire State building no less.

Space Kiddets

$$ | Children's boutique with unique toys & apparel
26 E 22nd St, New York, NY 10010 (btwn Broadway and Park)
(212) 420-9878

This is a fun little children’s shop with a unique collection of quirky toys and clothes. We always have fun exploring and usually find a few new favorites when we visit. The shop opens at 10:30AM on most days (11:00AM on Sunday) so you have plenty of time yo enjoy your coffee and take in the view from Broadway and 22nd street before it opens.

The LEGO Store

$$ NYC LEGO flagship store
200 5th Ave, New York, NY 10010 (near 23rd street)
(212) 255-3217
Website

While it’s often hard to rally the kids to leave a fun shop like Space Kiddets it’s doubtful you will hear any protests when you tell them they next stop is the LEGO store. My kids can never get enough LEGO time and this location showcases all of the best LEGO sets and designs!

Eataly NYC Flatiron

$$ - $$$ | Italian market with groceries, wine bars, counter service and sit down restaurants
200 5th Ave, New York, NY 10010 (between 23rd and 24th street)
(212) 229-2560
Website

Eataly is a chain of Italian markets loaded with tons of Italian imports and a number of delicious counters and cafes. My kids love the Pizza and Pasta restaurant but you can’t go wrong with any of the options. Also, after lunch there is an amazing Gelato and coffee and pastry bar near the entrance closest to the LEGO store. Worth a visit.
